Overview:
How you can make a difference
At HealthEquity, protecting sensitive healthcare and financial data is mission‑critical. As a Senior Data Security Engineer, you’ll play a direct role in shaping how our most sensitive structured data is protected as our platform evolves to include AI agents, automation, and modern data pipelines.
You’ll help safeguard data at the point where it’s most valuable and most vulnerable — inside databases — and ensure we understand *how*, *why*, and *by whom* that data is accessed. Your work will directly influence how we detect risk, prevent misuse, and stay ahead of emerging threats in a rapidly changing environment.
This is a role for builders: engineers who want to design, implement, and own real security controls that matter.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll focus on securing and monitoring access to our structured data environment, with emphasis on hands‑on engineering and delivery.
Database Security Monitoring & Visibility (Step One)
- Design and implement **database activity monitoring** solutions (e.g., Imperva or similar)
- Monitor and analyze database access patterns at a granular level — including service accounts, APIs, and AI-driven access
- Detect anomalous or risky behavior, such as unusual access frequency, new access paths, or unexpected usage patterns
- Build alerting and controls to help identify misuse, abuse, or runaway automation
- Help answer critical questions around **who is accessing sensitive data, what they’re accessing, and why**
Column-Level Encryption & Cryptography (Step Two)
- Partner with teams evaluating or implementing column-level encryption
- Apply practical knowledge of cryptography concepts, including:
- Tokenization and format-preserving encryption (FPE)
- Key management solutions such as HashiCorp Vault or Thales
- Support and guide ...
