# Staff Backend Engineer

## About the Role

Owner is seeking a \*\*Staff Backend Engineer\*\* to help build the autonomous operating system for restaurants. This role focuses on mission-critical systems across ordering, fulfillment, menu synchronization, POS integrations, kitchen workflows, and operational automation.

You’ll build reliable, scalable software that directly impacts restaurant revenue and guest experience. The role combines backend engineering, product development, workflow automation, and AI-enabled systems, with ownership across end-to-end workflows.

\*\*This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.\*\*

## Key Responsibilities

\* Build autonomous restaurant operations software and develop new interaction models between operators and software.

\* Build and maintain mission-critical systems that support guest experience, restaurant revenue, and reputation.

\* Lead reliability and scalability efforts across core restaurant workflows.

\* Develop systems that use rich, real-time data loops and immediate customer feedback.

\* Build solutions that help reduce support tickets and customer churn.

\* Own end-to-end workflows spanning \*\*ordering, kitchens, delivery, and fulfillment\*\*.

\* Develop workflow orchestration, automation systems, and AI agents.

\* Collaborate closely with product, design, and business teams.

\* Identify and proactively solve technical and product problems.

\* Contribute to Owner’s product development and revenue trajectory through scalable and reliable systems.

## Required Qualifications

\* \*\*7+ years of software engineering experience\*\*, including meaningful experience building end-to-end systems and product experiences.

\* Strong experience building \*\*high-throughput systems\*\* with a focus on reliability and scalability.
