About this role
About the role
We're considering bringing our software development in-house and want a senior developer to own it.
You'll be working with various management teams and own the Loansmart Portal, the system our advisers use every day, along with our integrations and public websites.
You'll take them from "maintained by someone else" to "built, owned and improved by us", and ship daily against a prioritised roadmap. Our goal is simple to say and hard to build: conditional approval in about a minute.
You'll report to our Operations Manager, who owns the roadmap, and work closely with the CEO, CMO, Sales Managers and Compliance.
Key responsibilities
- Own the Portal build into WP (PHP / MySQL) end to end: new features, fixes, performance and security patching
- Build and maintain integrations with lender APIs, Keap CRM, bank statement retrieval, SMS and AI calling, using REST, webhooks and OAuth
- Take ownership of our code, hosting and environments: Git-based version control, CI/CD, staging and UAT, backups, and production credentials held securely
- Build for our marketing team: loansmart.co.nz pages, calculators and landing pages built for A/B testing, plus support for analytics (GTM, server-side tagging, BigQuery)
- Scope, estimate and deliver roadmap projects against dates, cost and return, and report progress weekly
- Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, GitHub) every day, and set the standard for reviewing AI-written and contractor code
- Protect client financial data: access control, secrets management, logging, and Privacy Act 2020 obligations in a regulated financial advice business
- Document everything, so no system depends on one person's memory
About you
- 5+ years of hands-on full-stack development, with strong modern PHP (8.x; Laravel or similar) and MySQL, plus solid JavaScript
- A track record of building and maintaining third-party API integrations in production
- Comfortable owning Linux hosting or cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or s...
