The Role

We're looking for a Lead AI Engineer based in Bangalore to own and grow the AI function at Metaforms, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering.

This is a player-coach role. You'll lead a team of AI engineers — setting technical direction, establishing best practices, and ensuring delivery — while staying deeply hands-on yourself. You won't be managing from a distance; you'll be in the code, making architectural decisions, and solving hard problems alongside your team. If you're a strong AI engineer who's ready to take on the responsibility of building and leading a function, not just contributing to one, this role is for you.

What You'll Own

Team Leadership and Growth

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of AI engineers, setting a high bar for technical quality and ownership
• Own hiring and onboarding for the AI function in close partnership with the Head of Engineering
• Run structured technical reviews, provide meaningful feedback, and develop engineers at different stages of their careers
• Foster a culture of experimentation, rigour, and continuous improvement within the team

Technical Direction

• Define the technical roadmap for Metaforms' AI systems — evaluation infrastructure, agent architecture, model reliability, and data pipelines
