This is a Remote (U.S. - CST or EST preferred) Contract-to-Hire opportunity with a large enterprise technology organization supporting complex AWS-based infrastructure environments. The team is seeking a DevOps / Infrastructure Automation Engineer with strong Python experience to help evolve and modernize a highly customized automation platform running primarily in EC2 environments. This role is contract-to-hire with strong intent to convert to full-time.
The #1 feature of this opportunity is ownership and impact. This is not a surface-level DevOps role - they need a true engineer who can read, understand, and enhance a complex Python-based templating engine that programmatically generates Terraform configurations. You'll be working in a small, highly technical team where your contributions directly influence long-term modernization efforts. It's a great fit for someone who enjoys solving hard infrastructure problems, improving partially manual environments, and wants meaningful engineering work rather than ticket-based operations.
Required Skills & Experience
4+ years of AWS infrastructure experience
Strong production-level Python programming experience
Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
Experience working within EC2-based environments
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (VPC, load balancers, IP addressing)
Experience maintaining and enhancing complex codebases
Ability to debug and refactor code written by others
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure
Experience in hybrid legacy / modernization environments
Background in automation-heavy DevOps environments
Experience contributing to long-term platform migrations
