Senior / Staff Backend Engineer (Data Platform & APIs)

About the Role

We are building a high-scale data platform that powers real-time systems, APIs, and product features across the business. This team owns the ingestion, processing, and serving of large-scale telemetry and event data.

This is a high-bar role focused on backend engineering and distributed systems. It is best suited for engineers who have built and operated real-time, data-intensive systems powering production applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services and APIs for production applications
• Develop and optimize data ingestion systems (real-time and batch) from external sources and devices
• Work with event-driven and streaming architectures to process high-volume data
• Build systems that transform raw data into application-ready datasets
• Own services end-to-end, including performance, scalability, and reliability

Candidate Expectations

We are looking for engineers who have built and operated high-scale backend systems in production environments.

Strong candidates will have:

• Experience building **distributed systems processing large volumes of data**
• Experience designing and owning **APIs used in production applications**
• Hands-on work with **real-time or near real-time data systems**
• A strong foundation in backend engineering with clear ownership of services

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of experience as a software or backend engineer
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Node.js
• Experience with distributed systems and backend service architecture
• Experience with data ingestion, streaming, or data platform development
• Experience working in cloud environments such as GCP or AWS

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis, or similar streaming technologies
• Experience with BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar data systems
