Lead Data Scientist - Merchandising & Pricing (REMOTE)

About this role

For our client, we are seeking a Lead Data Scientist - Merchandising & Pricing (remote) to join the team of a leader in the Retail & Consumer Goods space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will partner with business, technical, and operational stakeholders to build reporting, surface trends, and translate analysis into action. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen data-driven execution and help teams focus on the metrics that matter most within a consumer-facing environment.


Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available


Compensation: $95,200 – $158,800 annually


Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of advanced data science algorithms for merchandising and pricing
• Develop and optimize demand forecasting models using multivariate approaches
• Create AI/ML-driven assortment planning algorithms tailored to customer behavior
• Collaborate on NLP and GenAI projects to enhance data preparation for modeling
• Build and deploy robust machine learning models to support diverse retail operations
• Analyze pricing elasticity using predictive and causal modeling techniques
• Champion A/B testing and experimentation to drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in quantitative fields (computer science, engineering, mathematics, etc.)
• 6+ years of relevant experience, with 2-3 years as a technical lead
• Expertise in state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning techniques, especially for retail
• Familiarity with large language models and generative AI; operations research experience is a plus
• Proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Databricks, GCP, or Azure ML
• Strong presentation skills, particularly in influencing technical decisions
