Candid is a nonprofit organization and a leading source of data and insights about the social sector and philanthropy. Candid is seeking a resourceful, creative, conscientious, and detail-oriented \*\*Data Scientist\*\* to join its Data Science team.

This is a \*\*generalist applied data science role\*\* spanning data quality, machine learning model evaluation, production performance measurement, and exploration of new data products and derived fields. You will work independently within project-defined scope and frequently collaborate with product and data teams, engineers, analysts, product managers, and subject-matter experts. The role offers the opportunity to apply machine learning to large-scale real-world data problems while contributing to Candid's mission.

## Key Responsibilities

\* Apply machine learning to data problems including:

\* Detection and classification

\* Entity resolution and matching evaluation

\* Anomaly detection

\* Embeddings and semantic search

\* Feature engineering

\* Measure machine learning model performance using real-world production data, not only test datasets.

\* Build ground-truth datasets where existing labels are unavailable.

\* Detect model drift, performance degradation, and other production issues.

\* Apply machine learning to identify systematic data-quality problems at scale that may not be detected through queries or manual review.

\* Route identified data-quality issues to the appropriate teams responsible for remediation.

\* Take open-ended data science questions through exploration, prototyping, evaluation, and clear recommendations.

\* Determine when an idea is not worth pursuing and communicate those conclusions effectively.

\* Build enabling tools and dashboards that help analysts and data stewards perform their work.
