About the Role

Upstart is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to join its Product & Growth Analytics team. This team works across product strategy, data science, and business operations to help shape the company's credit products and improve outcomes for borrowers and banking partners.

In this role, you will partner with leaders across product, marketing, finance, and machine learning to identify business opportunities, guide strategic decisions, and develop analytical tools. The position calls for strong statistical expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to work through ambiguity. You will lead projects from problem definition and experimentation through analysis, communication, and implementation of insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify strategic gaps, uncover important business questions, and help set analytical priorities.
• Partner with product, finance, marketing, and machine learning leaders to clarify complex problems and guide decision-making.
• Build and maintain analytical tools, including forecasting models, spend allocation optimization tools, marketing incrementality models, and attribution models.
• Design and execute experiments, including A/B tests and advanced causal inference analyses, from hypothesis development through results interpretation.
