Accountant

About this role

Position Summary: The Accountant will manage and maintain effective accounting, cash management and financial reporting systems for all funds and provide general checks and balances. Additionally, the Accountant will oversee all Accounting Office operations including leading a team responsible for student collections, payroll processing, cash management, reconciliations, and accounts payable. The Accountant will lead the development and implementation of sound financial policies and procedures and will work with external auditors and coordinate the fiscal year end audits and tax preparation.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

• Prepare financial reports for the Board of Trustees and Executive Team.
• Prepare and issue financial and budget reports on a monthly basis or as requested.
• Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts for all funds and supervise operational accounting tasks such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and invoice management.
• Coordinate the preparation and on-going review and control of the University budget, as well as prepare and ensure timely preparation of legal, budget, and tax reporting documents, as requested.
• Communicate with external auditors on issues requiring professional guidance. Prepare work papers and schedules for the annual external audit.
• Oversee the onboarding of new employees to the payroll system, ensuring proper classifications of roles and benefits as prescribed by state and federal regulations.
• Process payroll related transactions.
• Manage the recording and accounting for all leases under new accounting rules.
• Manage the student payment process, daily cashiering monitoring and reporting, student payment plans and deferments.
• Ensure the implementation of systems and internal controls to support the integrity of the financial operations.
