About this role
About CORTO
We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.
Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best—providing expert legal counsel.
We’re rapidly scaling from 80 to 250+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 75% of the team are developers and engineers. Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you’ll join a fast-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you’re smart, caring, and ambitious, you’ll be in great company.
What you’ll do
We are looking for a mid-level engineer to join a backend team of three engineers, reporting to our Lead Engineer. You’ll split your time between extending our current integrations and owning new integrations. You’ll be working on our Document automation which is the bread and butter of our core product. Lawyers use it every day to generate precedents and documents.
To make this happen you will
Design, develop, and maintain software solutions with a strong focus on backend development using C# and .NET
Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs, backend services, integrations, and event-driven solutions on AWS using Lambda, SQS and S3.
Apply software engineering best practices and industry standards, including agile methodologies, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of development practices, architecture, tooling, and engineering standards.
What you’ll bring
3-5 years' commercial software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development
Strong commercial experience building backend services and APIs in C# and .NET
Demonstrated experience with:
Design and implementation of RESTful APIs with .NET, preferably .NET 10.
Design of relational database schemas and data models, preferably with AWS RDS or Amazon Aurora MySQL
Event-driven solutions, preferably using Amazon SQS, S3 and other AWS Lambda services
AI-assisted development and tooling, including MCP servers, structured prompting, and the development of AI tools and skills
Integration with workspace APIs, preferably Microsoft Graph and Google Gmail APIs
Server-side document generation and modification using libraries or platforms such as Aspose or similar.
Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and integration patterns.
Even better if you have
Integration with Microsoft Graph API, including Microsoft 365 services such as Outlook, Calendar, OneDrive, and related APIs.
Integration with Google APIs, particularly Google Workspace services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Drive.
macOS application development, including experience building, integrating, or supporting applications and services on Mac.
Experience developing integrations across Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace ecosystems.
You are the type of person who
Picks things up quickly and work autonomously once you have clear direction
Enjoys variety – new requests land every day and that keeps things interesting
Asks questions early rather than guessing
Stays calm under pressure and keep delivering
Wants to own a project end to end, not just close tickets
