About this role
Company Overview
Orbis is a technology company that delivers sovereign intelligence and decision capabilities to the United States Government and its allies. We convert complex information and operational systems into decisive outcomes, giving public institutions and critical enterprises the tools to move faster, see clearer, and act first in an increasingly contested world.
We are not a consulting firm and not a systems integrator. Every Orbis team is built around practitioners who have operated at the mission edge, and every engagement is judged on one thing: whether it produces working capability, not slide decks. Solutions forged from experience; that is how we build, and it is how we hire.
Job Summary
Own product surfaces end to end across the Orbis AI portfolio — the Agent Catalog, the OSINT Agent Harness, and Pulse Analytics — from data model through the interface an analyst actually uses. You will build where AI capability meets a real user: streaming agent output, knowledge structures that change underneath you, and results that must be explainable rather than merely plausible. The role exists because mission users judge our products by what they can see, verify, and act on.
Travel: Up to 15% for customer engagement, integration support, and team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Design and ship features end to end — data model, service logic, API surface, and the user-facing interface that consumes them.
Build and own the real-time surfaces of the products: streaming agent output, live task status, and progressive rendering of long-running analysis.
Make results explainable in the product by surfacing source, provenance, and reasoning path, so a user can judge a conclusion instead of trusting it.
Build interfaces over dynamic ontologies and knowledge structures that stay navigable as the underlying representation evolves.
Guarantee the service contracts you expose — versioning, backward compatibility, and failure semantics that consuming teams can rely on.
Set quality standards for the surfaces you own, including test coverage, accessibility, and front-end performance budgets.
Mentor junior engineers and lead design review and planning for the subsystems you own.
Travel up to 15% for customer engagement, integration support, and team collaboration.
Required Qualifications
4+ years of professional full-stack engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production product surfaces
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
Strong TypeScript/JavaScript across server and browser runtimes, or a strong Python back end paired with real front-end skill
Production experience with a modern front-end framework (React preferred), including component architecture, state management, and rendering performance
Working knowledge of API design, including versioning, error contracts, authentication, and authorization
Hands-on experience with real-time client-server patterns such as WebSockets, server-sent events, or streaming HTTP
Willingness to travel up to 15%
Desired Qualifications
Experience presenting complex, interrelated data such as entities, relationships, graphs, timelines, or cited documents
Familiarity with LLM application patterns, including streaming responses, retrieval, tool calling, and structured output
Experience with graph databases or knowledge representation, and querying them at interactive latency
Experience building SDKs or developer-facing libraries where other engineers are the customer
Experience packaging and deploying to on-premises, disconnected, or edge environments (Docker, Kubernetes, offline installation)
Familiarity with accessibility standards (Section 508 / WCAG) in a government or enterprise context
Prior experience in a mission, government, or regulated environment where operational reliability is foundational
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Participation in virtual and in-person meetings
Ability to attend planned meetings and/or work in classified spaces for extended periods within the specified work regions
Travel: Up to 15% for customer engagement, integration support, and team collaboration.
