The
Staff Data Engineer
is a senior leadership role responsible for designing and evolving onX's core data platform, focusing on data structure, governance, security, and scalability.


Key Responsibilities Include

• Architecting and optimizing an Iceberg-based lakehouse architecture to ensure performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Defining standards for table design, schema evolution, and data layout, and leading cross-team data processing initiatives.
• Establishing metadata and governance standards, integrating open-source tools, and ensuring AI readiness and self-service analytics.
• Designing security models, access controls, and compliance measures, embedding policy enforcement, and balancing security with usability.
• Maintaining platform reliability through automation, observability, incident support, and operational improvements.
• Aligning technical work with business goals, mentoring engineers, and fostering cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications Include

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent, with 12+ years of experience in large-scale data systems.
• Expertise in distributed data architecture, Apache Iceberg, security, Python, SQL, orchestration tools, and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Strong communication skills and experience with metadata, governance, and cloud-native data services.
