Job Description:
GDIT has an opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to design, build, automate, and maintain cloud-native deployment and container orchestration capabilities on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). This role is responsible for expanding enterprise CI/CD automation using GitLab, enabling secure and scalable deployments, and supporting mission-focused application teams across the ICAM ecosystem.
This is a fully remote position.
Meaningful Work and Personal Impact:
The ideal candidate is a hands-on DevOps engineer with deep experience in AKS, GitLab pipeline automation, container orchestration, and cloud-native operational patterns. You will support engineering teams by providing secure, repeatable build-and-release automation while ensuring services are deployed reliably and monitored effectively. Your work directly improves deployment velocity, operational resilience, and modernization efforts in support of enterprise ICAM mission requirements.
Design, deploy, and manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters, including node pools, workload identities, ingress controllers, and security configurations.
Develop, optimize, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for build automation, containerization, quality gates, security scanning, and production release workflows.
Build and maintain Helm charts, YAML manifests, templates, and reusable AKS deployment patterns.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM) for provisioning and managing cluster and cloud resources.
Collaborate with application teams to containerize applications, troubleshoot deployments, and optimize runtime performance.
Implement and maintain observability tools (Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/EFK) for monitoring cluster health, logs, and metrics.
Ensure secure handling of secrets, certificates, and configuration values using Key Vault or equivalent tools.
Troubleshoot AKS workloads, GitLab CI/CD failures, pipeline performance, Kubernetes scaling issues, and service connectivity problems.
Document operational procedures, IaC patterns, deployment workflows, troubleshooting guides, and DevOps standards.
Support Zero Trust, compliance, and enterprise security requirements through hardened DevOps practices.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (Required):
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
Minimum of an active Secret security clearance.
Current DoW 8140 certification (Security+ CE or higher).
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of Kubernetes operations, container lifecycle, networking, scaling, and security.
Expertise with GitLab (runners, pipeline configuration, security scanning, artifact management).
Proficient with Docker, Helm, YAML, and Kubernetes manifests.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
Familiarity with monitoring and observability stacks (Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK).
Ability to troubleshoot cluster issues, deployments, pods, services, and containerized workloads.
Excellent documentation and cross-team collaboration skills
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (Desired):
Experience with Azure DevOps, ArgoCD, Flux, or other GitOps tools.
Experience integrating AKS with identity and access controls (AAD workload identities, managed identities).
Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Consul Connect).
Experience with container security scanning, SAST/DAST, and vulnerability management.
Familiarity with Zero Trust, enterprise cloud security, and compliance frameworks.
