Job Description
Trucordia is a rapidly growing insurance brokerage that acquires agencies nationwide and brings their business onto shared systems and shared reporting. Every acquired agency arrives with its own systems, its own data, and its own way of counting things. The Data & Analytics team turns that into one answer: a Snowflake warehouse fed from AMS360, Salesforce, HR, and finance systems, etc. modeled in dbt into conformed dimensions and facts (policies, premium, retention, producers, agencies, carriers), and served through Power BI, curated semantic views for AI, and internal web apps we design and build ourselves. Our governance framework (Entra-synced roles, row-level security, network and authentication policies) is code we wrote and maintain.
We are hiring a Data Engineer to help us build and run that platform. This role sits within the Data and Technology organization on the Data & Analytics team, a small, senior group that owns the full path from source system to decision. You will own dbt models and pipelines end to end, onboard new sources, keep the nightly run healthy, and make the platform faster, more trustworthy, and less dependent on any one engineer’s memory. You will work closely with our Integrations team, which migrates acquired agencies into AMS360, and with analysts and stakeholders in Sales, Operations, and Finance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain dbt models across our staging, intermediate, and mart layers, owning model performance, incremental strategies, tests, and documentation for the areas you take on.
Onboard new sources into Snowflake, from agency management systems to SaaS tools and flat-file feeds, including profiling the data, agreeing on grain and keys with analysts, and writing the loads and quality checks.
Keep the nightly dbt run healthy: diagnose failures, fix root causes, and reduce the blast radius when an upstream source breaks.
Improve observability with freshness checks, row-count and reconciliation tests, and alerting when a source or model drifts from expectations.
Tune Snowflake cost and performance, including warehouse sizing, clustering, query patterns, and task scheduling.
Contribute to our governance framework: role grants, Entra group sync, row-level security policies, and the access-config tables that gate our internal apps.
Build the backend data layer for the internal web apps we ship to the business and support deploys through our CI pipelines.
Partner with analysts and stakeholders to translate a business question into a model that answers it consistently, and document the result in model docs, runbooks, and decision notes in our Azure DevOps wiki.
Qualifications
3+ years of professional experience building production data pipelines, with at least 2 years on a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake strongly preferred).
Strong SQL skills, including reading query plans, window functions, incremental logic, and slowly changing dimensions; comfortable profiling unfamiliar schemas and performing data quality analysis.
Hands-on dbt experience in a production project: models, tests, macros, sources, exposures, and a CI workflow.
Proficiency in Python for data work: loading files, calling APIs, writing small services or scheduled jobs, and testing them.
Experience with Git-based workflows, pull-request review, and CI/CD pipelines.
Sound data modeling judgment: you can explain why a fact table has the grain it does and push back when a request would break it.
Strong written communicator who documents solutions and collaborates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
AI Assisted Development Requirements:
Proven, ongoing use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) as part of daily development workflows.
Demonstrated ability to use AI to accelerate coding, debugging, refactoring, and learning new technologies or codebases.
Ability to critically review AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and long-term maintainability.
Hands-on, habitual experience using AI in...
